The Russian Government has announced an RF Government Resolution, which specifies the official public holidays and bridge holidays in Russia for 2012.
The aforementioned Government Resolution No.581 of July 20, 2011, "On the Rescheduling of Days Off for 2012", was signed by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin yesterday.
As was done in previous years (24-Aug-2010, 10-Nov-2009, 28-Nov-2008, 11-Aug-2007, 06-Jan-2007, 11-Nov-2006, and 28-Dec-2005), whenever a fixed-date annual public holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, the preceding Monday or Friday will be declared a one-off bridge public holiday, to be compensated by declaring a nearby Saturday to be a regular working day.
In particular, the aforementioned resolution declares Friday, March 9, 2012, as a one-off bridge public holiday, to be compensated by the simultaneous declaration of Sunday, March 11, 2011, as a regular working day, thus leading to the concurrent announcement of March 4, 2012, as the date of the upcoming Russian Presidential Election.
Finally, in a separate announcement, the Mayor of Moscow, Russia's economic and political capital, Sergei Sobyanin, announced that September 8, 2012, would be a one-off munucipal public holiday to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino which marked the onset of the victory of Russia over France in the 1812 war.
