Senegalese President, Abdoulaye Wade, has finally confirmed that he will issue a presidential decree declaring the Magal de Touba as a new annual non-working public holiday (journée chômée et payée) in Sénégal.
The aforementioned announcement, which was made during last Thursday's Conseil des Ministres had been widely rumoured (15-Nov-2011) to be imminent, although it had been promised on many occasions in the past.
Indeed, earlier this year (22-Jan-2011), Senegalese President, Abdoulaye Wade, had announced that he would consult with the Prime Minister, Souleymane Ndéné Ndiaye, on the best way to draft a law to finally make the Magal de Touba an annual public holiday in Sénégal.
But President Wade had already made a similar promise 2 years ago (26-Nov-2009), prompting the Khalife Général des Mourides to issue a statement 2 months ago (26-Oct-2011>) reminding Senegalese President, Abdoulaye Wade, of his earlier promise to make the Magal de Touba into an annual non-working public holiday in Sénégal.
The next Magal de Touba is expected to occur on January 12, 2012.
