The leader of the National Alliance (NA) group in Sint Maarten's Parliament, William Marlin, has renewed calls for October 10 to also be declared an annual non-working public holiday in Sint Maarten.
Last month (30-Sep-2011), the Prime Minister of Sint Maarten, Sarah Wescot-Williams, had announced that there were no plans for Sint Maarten to declare October 10 as a non-working public holiday, despite the fact that Curaçao had recently declared Monday, October 10, 2011, as an official non-working public holiday to commemorate the first anniversary of the date when Curaçao gained autonomous country status (25-Sep-2011).
As we mentioned in our last news update on the subject, if a new public holiday is to be declared in Sint Maarten, it is more likely to be emancipation Day on July 1, whose implementing legislation narrowly missed being passed earlier this year (29-Jun-2011, 18-Jun-2011 and 03-Jun-2011).
