South Sudan's President, Salva Kiir, has declared Thursday, December 1st, 2011, as a non-working public holiday throughout South Sudan on the occasion of the upcoming World AIDS Day.
As per the text of the presidential declaration, from now on, December 1st is to be an annual non-working public holiday in South Sudan ("So that everybody attends the day, the 1st of every December will be a public holiday").
After years of de facto independence, South Sudan became an internationally-recognized independent state this past summer (04-Jul-2011) following a referendum at the beginning of this year (08-Jan-2011).
