Next Tuesday, Conservative backbencher Andrew Rosindell is scheduled to ask leave to introduce a Bill into the UK House of Commons which would require the Secretary of State to annually prepare and publish a list of the public holidays and bank holidays for the 10 years to come.
As per the aforementioned item in the House of Commons' Summary Agendas and Orders of Business, the Bill's aim is "to make provision to enable local communities to observe significant occasions; and for connected purposes [sic]".
It is not clear what spurred this into motion, as most annual public holidays and bank holidays in the UK are quite predictable, apart from the odd, one-off, public holidays which are hard to predict 10 years in advance, such as the Royal Wedding public holiday (23-Nov-2010), for obvious reasons, and the public holidays for the Queen's Jubilees (27-Dec-2009 and 19-Jun-2001), as the next one would be in 2022.
