Late last night (Monday morning in Europe) the government of Venezuela's State of Anzoátegui announced that Monday, January 31, 2011, would be a one-off state public holiday (día de júbilo no laborable) to celebrate the Anzoátegui Caribes' winning of their first title in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.
As per the decreto Nº 12, extensión 53, the aforementioned state public holiday applies to both the public and private sectors ("Se suspenden actividades tanto públicas como privadas").
Recall that, 2 years ago (02-Feb-2009), it was while attending the same baseball championship that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, on the spur of the moment, announced that Monday, February 2, 2009, would be a one-off public holiday (día no laborable) to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Hugo Chavez's accession to power.
