The South Australian Government has made a deal with independent MPs to ensure passage of its currently-proposed amendments to the official legislation governing non-working public holidays in the Australian state of South Australia.
The aforementioned changes to the current Holidays Act 1910 (SA) were announced earlier this month (04-Mar-2012), and will include part-day public holidays on Christmas Eve (December 24) and New Years Eve (December 31) as well as the removal of Sundays from the definition of what constitutes a non-working public holiday in the Australian state of South Australia.
Note, however, that these new December 24 and December 31 public holidays will only apply from 19:00 (7pm) to midnight.
The last change to the official list of non-working public holiday in the Australian state of South Australia was in 2006, when the 2007 Adelaide Cup public holiday was moved from May to March (31-Aug-2006 and 12-Jul-2006) where it has stayed since then (15-Jul-2010, 24-Jan-2011, and 14-Mar-2011).
