The head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, has announced that the annual, January 25, Police Day, public holiday would henceforth be commemorated as a national public holiday, "January 25 Revolution Day", marking the anniversay of the start of the 2011 popular uprising that toppled former Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak.

A couple of years ago (06-Jan-2010), the Egyptian government had declared January 25 as a new annual, "Police Day", non-working public holiday. Before 2010, Police Day had been observed only as a commemorative date (ie. a regular working day).
