Finland Declares New April 8 Holiday

(Posted on Wednesday, October 3, 2012)

Source: The Almanac Office at University of Helsinki (private communication from Heikki Oja)

A new, April 8, annual festival day has been approved in Finland to commemorate International Romani Day (Romanien kansallispäivä).

This new annual festival day (Romernas nationaldag, in Swedish) will not be a new annual non-working public holiday, but rather a so-called black letter day, though not a Finnish flag day.
