Ghana's Minister of the Interior, William K. Aboah, has issued a release stating that Friday, September 21, 2012, would be a non-working statutory public holiday in Ghana.

September 21st, 2009, corresponded to the 100th birthday of the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and at that time, President, John Evans Atta Mills, who died last summer (03-Aug-2012), had announced his intention to create a new, September 21, public holiday, shortly after being elected (20-Feb-2009).

Shortly before the aforementioned 100th anniversary (03-Sep-2009), Ghana's President, John Evans Atta Mills, issued an Executive Instrument declaring Monday, September 21st, 2009, an official public holiday. This was repeated for the past 2 years (19-Sep-2011 and 20-Sep-2010).
