Kyrgyzstan April 30 Public Holiday Ruled-Out

The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic has announced that Monday, April 30, 2012, would not be an official non-working public holiday in Kyrgyzstan.

As per the official government announcement, the only non-working public holidays in May will be May 1 (Labour Day), May 5 (Constitution Day) and May 9 (Victory Day).

However, as per a statement by the press secretary of the Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Youth, Employment and Labour, Nurzhan Naizabekova, April 30, May 4 and May 8 are "pre-holiday days" in which the working day will be reduced by 1 hour.

Having an extra bridge non-working public holiday compensated by declaring a weekend day as a regular working day is common in Kyrgyzstan (25-Apr-2011, 28-Feb-2011, 07-Oct-2010, 25-Aug-2010, 15-Feb-2010, 11-Dec-2009, 19-Dec-2008 and 27-Dec-2007) and therefore there had been rumours that Monday, April 30, 2012, would be declared an official non-working public holiday in Kyrgyzstan, as was recently done in Kazakhstan (16-Apr-2012).
