Thailand Public Holiday April 9

(Posted on Tuesday, January 31, 2012)

Thailand’s Cabinet has declared Monday, April 9, 2012, as an additional one-off non-working public holiday in Thailand, on account of that day's royal cremation of Her Royal Highness Princess Bejraratana Rajasuda at Sanam Luang.

As per the aforementioned announcement by Prime Minister's Officer permanent secretary, Thongthong Chandrangsu, all government offices and eductional institutes will required to fly the national flag half-mast from April 8-10, inclusively.

The aforementioned one-off non-working public holiday was not included in the official list of 2012 non-working public holidays in Thailand, despite the fact that it was announced (20-Aug-2011) almost a month after Princess Bejraratana Rajasuda had died last summer.

The delay of almost a year between the Princess' death and her cremation is due to the time needed to design and build the crematorium, whose construction was originally scheduled to take about eight months, from August 2011 to March 2012.
