Thailand’s Cabinet has once again expanded the list of regional public holidays observed in southern Thailand by adding Christmas Day, on December 25, as a regional public holiday in Thailand's southern provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani, Satun and Yala.
Earlier this year (11-Jan-2012), the Thai Cabinet had declared Monday, January 23, 2012, the date of the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, as a non-working public holiday in Thailand's southern provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani, Satun and Yala, which already enjoy a regional public holiday for Eidilfitri (End of Ramadan).
The aforementioned declaration of Monday, January 23, 2012, as a non-working public holiday was soon followed (18-Jan-2012) by the Bank of Thailand's declaration of Chinese Lunar New Year as a bank holiday in the same provinces.
In related news, the Government of Thailand has announced that the date of the upcoming regional public holiday for the Eid ulFitr (End of Ramadan) will be Tuesday, August 21, 2012.
