Haryana Creates Public Holiday Committee Government of Haryana (Chandigarh) The Human Resources Department of the Government of India's state of Haryana has issued an order creating a standing committee to examine and consider all cases related to declaring any day as a public holiday in the state of Haryana. As per the aforementioned order, the standing committee's member secretary has been empowered to receive requests from the public or public representatives, and the recommendations of the committee will be submitted to the government through the Human Resources Department for approval. The creation of a public holidays standing committee might be due to the flurry of public holidays changes to the list of 2025 public holidays in Haryana since the beginning of the year. The initial list of 2025 public holidays in Haryana was set in last December's General Administration Department vide Notification No.28/67/2008-1HR-1. However, subsequently, the Haryana Government issued the vide Notification No.Elec-2025/IR-II/PSCE/Hol/2052 declaring Wednesday, February 5 as a public holiday on account of the general elections being held in the Delhi NCT on that date. Then the vide Notification No.Elec-2025/IR-II/PSCE/Hol/4335 was issued declaring March 2nd and 9th, 2025, as public holidays with wages on account of the various municipal elections being held on those 2 dates. Monday, March 31st, 2025, was then canceled as a public holiday as per the vide notification No.28/67/2008-1-HR-I. Then, the Haryana Government issued the vide notification No. 28/67/2008-1HR-I cancelling the April 30, 2025, public holiday for Akshaya Tritiya. And, most recently, the vide Notification No. Elec-2025/IR-II/PSCE/Hol/ 17767 was issued declaring Sunday, June 29, 2025, as a public holiday on account of the General Election for the seat of President and Members of all the ward of Municipal Committee, Kalanwali, District Sirsa.

Chilean Bill To Extend September Public Holidays Tramitación de proyectos (Congreso Nacional de Chile) Chilean member of Parliament, Camila Musante (Ind.-PPD), has introduced legislation to declare Wednesday, September 17, 2025, as a one-off public holiday thereby extending this year's fiestas patrias to 5 days. As per the aforementioned bill's presentation, "The increased demand in the tourism and services sectors could generate temporary jobs in hospitality, commerce, and other industries to meet the increased influx of people". Recall that, in 2007, the Labour code of Chile was amended by adding a 3rd sub-paragraph to Article 35, automatically making September 17 a public holiday when it falls on a Monday, and automatically making September 20 a public holiday when it falls on a Friday. Five years later, in 2012, Chilean member of Parliament, Ricardo Rincón (DC), introduced legislation to further extend the September Fiestas Patrias by making September 17 a non-working public holiday when both the 18th and 19th fall on a weekend (ie. when September 17 is a Friday), as well as January 2 being declared a non-working public holiday, whenever it falls on a Monday. That bill was passed very swiftly, with little opposition, probably as its effects were far away, with the first occurrence of a Monday, January 2, non-working public holiday being in 2017, and the first Friday, September 17, occurring in 2021. Some exceptions to the above 2 laws were declared on occasion, as was the case in 2010, when then Chilean President, Sebastián Piñera, signed into law Law 20.450, which declared Friday and Monday, September 17 and 20, 2010, as additional public holidays.

South Korea Rules-Out October 10 Public Holiday Yonhap News Agency (Seoul) The South Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance, the competent authority for the declaration of one-off (temporary) public holidays, has reported that it had "not reviewed the plan to designate October 10 as a temporary holiday" and the Ministry of Personnel Management has confirmed that it had not received any request for the temporary holiday designation from the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Had October 10, 2025, been declared a one-off public holiday, it would have allowed for a ten-day break from the National Foundation Day on October 3 to the weekend of October 12, 2025. Recall that, last January, the South Korean cabinet approved the declaration of Monday, January 27, 2025, as a temporary public holiday to link the then upcoming Seol-nal Lunar New Year holidays with the preceding weekend. But the government was disappointed with the result of the declaration of Monday, January 27, 2025, as a temporary public holiday, as it led to an increase in overseas travel rather than domestic consumption revitalization that had been hoped for. And, when the next opportunity came up for an extended period of public holidays, the Ministry of Economy and Finance flatly stated that there were no plans to declare Friday, May 2, 2025, as a temporary (bridge) public holiday to link the May 1st public holiday with the subsequent May 3-4 weekend and the ensuing May 5-6 public holidays for Children's Day and Buddha's Birthday ("We have never reviewed the matter and have no plans to discuss it"). Over the years, South Korea has declared bridge public holidays on a few occasions. In 2023, President Yoon Suk Yeol declared Monday, October 2, 2023, a bridge public holiday to link the end of the Chuseok public holidays with the subsequent National Foundation Day public holiday. In 2017, the Government of South Korea declared Monday, October 2, 2017, as a temporary public holiday to link the 2017 Chuseok South Korean public holiday with the preceding weekend. In 2015, the South Korean government declared Friday, August 14, 2015, the day before the National Liberation Day public holiday as a temporary public holiday due to the Liberation Day public holiday falling on a Saturday in 2015.
