Source: The Age (Melbourne) - Summary: Victoria State Premier, John Brumby, has ruled out bringing back a public holiday for the Royal Melbourne Show, as had been requested by the head of the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, Mark O'Sullivan.
Mr. O'Sullivan. had suggested moving the Queen's Birthday public holiday from June to September so that both events could be held jointly, without increasing the number of State public holidays.
The Kennett government (1992-1999) abolished the Royal Melbourne Show Day public holiday in the 1990s shortly after winning office.
