Source: BBC News - Summary: Qazim Abudi, administrative director of the Iraq High Electoral Committee, announced that the long delayed provincial elections would be held on the same day, Saturday, January 31, 2009, in Baghdad and 14 or Iraq's 18 provinces.
Based on what happened on the occasion of previous elections (our December 10, 2005, news update and our October 2, 2005, news update), we expect that date to be declared a public holiday in Iraq.
