15 Sep 2007 (Radio New Zealand International) Tokelau will hold a referendum from Saturday, October 20, to Tuesday, October 23, 2007. Note that Monday, October 22, is a public holiday in (Labour Day) which means that the first 3 days of the referendum are scheduled for non-working days. Background Information

Governing Law: The list and names of official public holidays in Tokelau are defined by Sections 2 and 7 of the Interpretation Rules 2003.  NZ Holidays: Tokelau observes New Zealand's public holidays (notably New Year's Day, Waitangi Day on 6 February, Anzac Day on 25 April, the Queen's Birthday in June and Labour Day in October), but contrary to what is often reported they are not official public holidays (ie. they are regular working days).  Regional Public Holidays: Two village holidays are designated by the three island councils annually.  Tokelau International Codes TK and TKL (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .tk (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Tokelau information and news: ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Tokelau maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Tokelau), and Wikipedia (includes Tokelau commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
