Background Information

Governing Law: Official public holidays in Tuvalu are regukated by the Public Holidays Ordinance 1990 (CAP. 14 Section 1).  Regional Public Holidays: Each of the islands of Tuvalu has its own island-specific public holiday: • Jan-8: Nanumea (Te Po o Tefolaha) • Feb-11: Nukufetau (Te Aso o Tutasi) • Feb-16: Nuitao (Bongin the Ieka) • Apr-15: Nanumaga (Aho o te Fakavae) • May-16: Nukulaelae (Aso o te Tala Lei) • Sep-17: Niutao (Te Aso o te Setema) • Oct-21: Funafuti (Hurricane Bebe Day) • Nov-5: Vaitupu (Te Aso Fiafia)  Heir to the Throne Day (Prince of Wales' Birthday) is omitted from many online resources, but we have direct confirmation from the Law Revision Commissioner of the Government of Tuvalu, that the 1990 law on public holidays that specifies that this is a public holiday in Tuvalu has, to this date, not been amended or repealed.  Tuvalu International Codes TV and TUV (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .tv (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Tuvalu information and news: ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Tuvalu maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Tuvalu), and Wikipedia (includes Tuvalu commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
