Governing Law: Official public holidays in Madagascar are regulated by the Décret 62-150 du 28 mars 1962 Déterminant les modalités d'application du repos hebdomadaire, des jours fériés chômés et des jours fériés chômés et payés whose article 22 lists the official public holidays of Madagascar, and whose Article 28 addresses (partially) the issues stemming from public holidays that fall on a weekend.
Annual Decrees: After consultations with the Conseil National de l'Emploi, the list of annual public holidays in Madagascar is confirmed or modified annually by a government decree, usually published in January.
International Women's Day was made a partial public holiday, for women only, by decree 99-145 of February 25, 1999.
Martyrs' Day was made a partial public holiday, pursuant to decree 66-035 of December 19, 1966.
June 26: The public holiday on that date is often referred to as Madagascar's National Day (Fetim-pirenena), for lack of a clearly selected National Day, but that is not really correct.
