21 Jan 2012 (Botswana Press Agency-Gaborone) The government of Botswana has released the list of official non-working public holidays in Botswana for the calendar year 2012. • 07 Sep 2009 (MNEGI-Gaborone) Botswana's Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Margaret Nasha, has announced that the upcoming election day, Friday, October 16, 2009, will be a public holiday. • 03 Sep 2009 (The Sunday Standard-Gaborone) Following this morning's issuance of a writ of elections, by Botswana President Lt. Gen. Governing Law: Official public holidays in Botswana are regulated by the Labour Laws of Botswana (Part VIII / 100) and the Public Holidays Act, 2006- Act No. 17 of 2006 (An Act to re-enact, with amendments the Public Holidays Act), published in the Government Gazette Vol. XLIV, No. 69, dated September 15th, 2006). • Multi-Day Holidays: Before 2006, the public holidays of President's Day and Botswana Day both lasted 2 days. Then the previously mentioned 2006 Public Holidays Amendment reduced both public holidays to one day, in compensation for which, Ascension was added as a public holiday, and an additional day in lieu was given when Botswana Day falls on a Saturday.
