06 Feb 2010 (Le Portail des Institutions-Bujumbura) The President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza, has declared Monday, February 8, 2010, a one-off public holiday to enable civil servants and the private sector to register for the upcoming elections.
• 21 Jul 2006 (Arib News) Earlier this week, Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza signed a decree, making April 6, the date of the assasination of President Ntaryamira, a public holiday in Burundi.
• 01 Nov 2005 (Agence burundaise de presse-Bujumbura) For the very first time, the government of Burundi decided to observe the Idd-al-Fitr (end of Ramadan) Muslim festival by declaring, Friday, November 4, 2005, a national public holiday in Burundi.

Governing Law: Official public holidays in Burundi are regulated by the Décret n°100/182 du 17 juillet 2006 fixant la liste et le régime des jours fériés, within the framework of the Code du Travail du Burundi (Décret loi n°1-037 du 07 juillet 93).
• Eid al Fitr: Burundi celebrated Eid al Fitr for the first time in 2005 when a public holiday was granted to redress an injustice against the minority Muslim community, who was initially thought only 1% of the population, but was later declared by Muslim groups who had conducted a census, to be between 8% to 10% .
