The Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, M. Chigir, has issued a decree declaring Monday, January 6, 1997, as a one-off non-working bridge public holiday in Belarus on account of the upcoming Orthodox Christmas annual public holiday of Belarus.

As usual in similar past cases (1996-10-28), in compensation for the Monday, January 6, 1997, one-off non-working public holiday, the Decision of the Council of Ministers No.776 specifies that Saturday, January 4, 1997, will be a regular working day throughout the Republic of Belarus.
