Kyrgyzstan's parliament has voted to reinstate the November 7 annual anniversary of Russia's 1917 Bolshevik revolution as a public holiday.

A majority of the 60 deputies voted for the bill, saying they be grateful to the Bolsheviks for ending the "genocide of the Kyrgyz nation" conducted by tsarist Russia after the popular uprising in 1916.

The November 7 public holiday had been removed from the list of Kyrgyzstan public holidays in 1991, following the fall of the Soviet Union.
