Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders meeting: NSW will get an extra public holiday next year when Sydney hosts world leaders at an international summit, Premier Morris Iemma says.

US President George Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin and 18 other world leaders will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders meeting on September 8-9 next year. Mr Iemma says Friday, September 7, will be gazetted as a one-off public holiday to help clear the city for security reasons.

In 2004, Chile declared a municipal holiday on Friday, November 19, 2004, in Chile's capital, Santiago, to coincide with that year's upcoming APEC Summit (2004-10-28).
