Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN), Tan Sri Mohamed Sidek Hassan, has announced that Tuesday, January 2, 2007, would be a public holiday for most states, if Hari Raya Haji falls on Sunday, December 31, 2006, as is expected.

This means with the exception of Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, other states will enjoy holidays for three consecutive days from Sunday to Tuesday.

In a statement, he said the three-day holiday was given that Sunday is a weekend and followed by the New Year public holiday on Monday in states, except the four respective states, and Perlis.

As the New Year will not be a public holiday for Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, the states will observe two days of public holiday, that is on Sunday (Hari Raya Haji) and Monday, Jan 1 2007 (second day of Hari Raya Haji).

Perlis will enjoy three days of holiday although the New Year is not a public holiday for the state, as it has allocated two days of public holiday for Hari Raya Haji.
