Following the death of Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE's government has issued a revised calendar of upcoming public holidays related to the declared mourning period and the upcoming Eid al-Adha public holidays.
Contrary to what was announced last week (2005-12-28), the public sector will get 7 days of public holidays to mourn, from Wednesday, January 4, to Tuesday, January 10, 2006. Combined with the previously announced Eid al-Adha public holidays for the public sector, this means that the public sector will return to work on January 14, 2006.
The private sector will get 3 days of public holidays to mourn, from Wednesday, January 4, to Friday, January 6, 2006. The private sector will again be on holidays, as per the previously announced Eid al-Adha public holidays, from Monday, January 9, to Wednesday, January 11, 2006.
Banks will be closed to observe a 4-day mourning period, from Wednesday, January 4, to Saturday, January 7, 2006.
Finally, all schools, both public and private, will be closed from January 4 to January 13, inclusively.
