Earlier today, Prime Minister, Karim Massimov, signed a decree making Friday, August 31, 2007, a one-off bridge public holiday (August 30 is Kazakhstan's Constitution Day public holiday).
In compensation, Sunday, September 2, 2007, will be a regular working day, in lieu of the August 31, one-off, public holiday.
The moving of non-working days from the weekend to the Monday or Friday adjoining a fixed-date public holiday has become a regular (2007-02-27, 2006-01-02, and 2005-09-27), but not systematic (2006-08-25), feature of the Kazakhstan public holidays calendar.
