The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan has announced the date of the upcoming municipal elections as Wednesday, December 23, 2009.

This announcement follows an earlier one (2009-10-06) in which Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission Spokesperson, Azer Sariyev, announced that the upcoming Municipal elections, and related public holiday, would be held in the second half of December, after December 17-18.

The Labor Code was recently amended to make the date of any election a non-working public holidays throughout Azerbaijan, so we expect December 23, 2009, to be declared a one-off public holiday in Azerbaijan. Previously, only the dates of Presidential elections were declared public holidays (2009-02-05).
