Following yesterday's Conseil des Ministres chaired by President Marc Ravalomanana, the official list of 2009 public holidays in Madagascar was announced, as per the "Décret n°2009/051 fixant la liste des jours fériés, chômés et payés au titre de l'année 2009".

The Ascension Day public holiday is restored in 2009, having been left out of last year's official list of public holidays (2008-01-16) due to the fact that both the Ascension and May 1st public holidays occurred on the same date in 2008.

Contrary to what was done in the last 2 years (2008-01-16 and 2007-01-09), the decree only specifies 1 one-off bridge public holiday.
