Nauru's Acting President, Kieren Keke, has declared tomorrow, Friday, September 25, 2009, a national public holiday ("It is notified for general information that pursuant to Section 37, subsection 4 of the Public Service Act 1998, Friday 25th September 2009, from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. to be observed as a public holiday").

According to the announcement contained in the Nauru Government Gazette No.99 (G.N.No. 375/2009), the aforementioned declaration of Friday, September 25, 2009, was declared a non-working public holiday in Nauru "in celebration of National Youth Day and in commemoration of the birth date of the late former President Sir Hammer DeRoburt".

The aforementioned September 25 public holiday thus amends the previously-released list of 2009 non-working public holidays in Nauru (2008-12-29), as did the earlier declaration of Monday, March 9, 2009, as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Nauru, was made "in commemoration of the International Women's Day which falls on the 8th of March of each year" (2009-03-02), and last month's declaration, in the Nauru Government Gazette No.86 (G.N.No. 336/2009), of Tuesday, September 1st, 2009, as a public holiday to commemorate the launch of Digicel's GSM mobile telecommunications network in Nauru (2009-08-31).
