Zimbabwe 2010 Public Holidays Announced

Zimbabwe's Home Affairs Co-Ministers, Kembo Mohadi and Giles Mutsekwa, have announced that the list of normal public holidays had been gazetted for 2010.

There are 3 interesting aspects to this gazetted list of 2010 public holidays.

First, for the first time, we have an official statement that, in Zimbabwe, Sunday public holidays give rise to a day in lieu public holiday on the following Monday. This was the de-facto practice, in the past, but it was not official.

Then, for the first time (2008-12-24), Easter Sunday is listed as an official public holiday (in addition to Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday).

Finally, and in seeming contradiction with the first point, no days in lieu are listed along with Christmas Day and Boxing Day which, in 2010, both fall on a weekend. We assume that this is an oversight and that it will be corrected in the final decree.
