Bahrain Declares Islamic New Year Public Holiday

Bahrain's Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, has issued a circular declaring a one-day public holiday on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, to coincide with the first day of Muharram, the Islamic New Year 1432 AH.

As the aforementioned date is a midweek date, there was no need to declare a day in lieu public holiday as was done last year (2009-12-17).

In a separate announcement, the Chief Executive of the Bahrain Association of Banks has announced that all banks in Bahrain would remain closed on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, on account of the Islamic New Year.
