An adviser to the Moldovan Prime Minister, Igor Volnitchi, has announced that no additional non-working public sector holiday would be given to public sector employees to compensate the fact that one of the upcoming Christmas public holidays falls on a weekend.
As per the aforementioned statement, only January 7 will be a public holiday and the additional public holiday will occur on a weekend (Zi libera va fi doar pe 7 ianuarie. Celelalte sarbatori vor fi în zile de odihna si nu vor fi acordate zile libere.).
Alkthough the declaration of one-off bridge public holidays is common in Moldova (10-Aug-2010, 10-Dec-2008, 06-Dec-2007, and 23-Feb-2005), the declaration of a day in lieu public holiday to compensate a public holiday that falls on a weekend is not.
