The State Secretary of Malaysia's State of Sabah, Datuk Sukarti Wakiman, has announced that, effective this year, the official state public holiday for the celebration of the "Yang Dipertua Negeri" (head of state's birthday) would be moved to the first Saturday of October.
The move follows the long-awaited announcement (2009-10-19) by Malaysia's Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, that the Malaysian Cabinet had decided to celebrate Hari Malaysia as a national public holiday, starting on September 16, 2010, the date of the Sabah state public holiday until then.
The September Sabah state public holiday had already been moved the year before (2008-10-03) when Sabah State Secretary, Datuk Sukarti Wakiman, announced that the birthday celebrations for Sabah's head of state, Yang Dipertua Negeri, had been postponed to October 11, 2008, due to it coinciding with the month of Ramadan in 2008.
