UK Unlikely To Declare St George's Day Public Holiday

The UK's Conservative Party has announced that making St George's Day a public holiday (or bank holiday as public holidays are called in the UK) is not part of the Conservative Party's policy, should they win the upcoming general elections.

Should the Labour Party win the upcoming elections, the UK's Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, recently promised (2010-03-13) a new annual public holiday called "Pride in Britain Day", once economic recovery from the current downturn is secure.

Although no date has been floated for this possible new public holiday, it is unlikely to occur on St George's Day, a date much to closely linked to England only.
