The government of Afghanistan has declared Wednesday, January 26, 2011, a one-off public holiday on account of the inaugural ceremony of the Wolesi Jirga, or the lower house of parliament.

Last summer (01-Jun-2010), Afghanistan's President, Hamid Karzai, had declared Wednesday and Thursday, June 2 and 3, 2010, as one-off public holidays on account of the peace jirga being conducted on those 2 days.
