Delhi NCT Public Holiday For Chhat

The Mayor of Delhi in India's Capital Territory, Rajni Abbi, has announced that Tuesday, November 1, 2011, would be a non-working public holiday in Delhi on the occasion of the upcoming Chhat festival.

In the aforementioned announcement, Mayor Abbi said that he would also lead a delegation of BJP leaders to meet Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday to demand a similar holiday for the rest of the city and to also make it a public holiday every year.

The Chhat festival is one of the official non-working public holidays in Nepal, but is not celebrated as an official non-working public holiday in any of India's major states.

In related Indian electoral news, the Indian State of Manipur has declared Monday, October 24, 2011, as a one-off non-working public holiday for all the Government offices, banks, financial institutions and educational institutions located in Phaibung Khullen and Chingai ADC Constituencies on October 24 on account of ADC elections.
