The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) has once again confirmed that the date of the upcoming Merchants' Holiday, Monday, January 3, 2012, was not a non-working public holiday.
Merchants' Holiday is traditionally observed on January 2 or 3, depending on the years, and was traditionally used for retailers to take inventory. However, every year rumours abound that the upcoming Merchants' Holiday will finally be a non-working public holiday requiring a denial from either business or labor unions (2010-12-31).
