Ecuador Moves Regional Public Holiday

The governor of the Ecuadorean Province of Azuay, Leonardo Berrezueta, has announced that he had decided to move the upcoming, annual, April 12, Fundación de Cuenca public holiday to Monday, April 11, 2011.

The aforementioned decision, taken in the context of the Ley de Servicio Público, will create a 3-day weekend. As per the communique, all government offices will work as normal on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 ("el día martes las instituciones públicas trabajarán con normalidad").

In related news, there is still no official confirmation of the May 6 public holiday that had been requested by Ecuador's electoral council to facilitate the return of workers to their place of electoral registration in view of the Saturday, May 7, 2011, referendum (2011-02-26).
