Ghana Declares August 31 End of Ramadan Public Holiday

Ghana's Minister for the Interior, Benjamin Kunbuor, has announced that his ministry had declared Wednesday, August 31, 2011, as the date of the upcoming Eid-Ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday in Ghana.

In the past, Ghana has either declared Muslim public holidays early (2008-09-25 and 2007-12-15) as do Nigeria and Libya, or on a more middle-of-the-road date that follows the Saudi Arabian announcements (2010-09-07, 2009-09-15, 2008-12-03 and 2007-10-10).

The aforementioned declaration of August 31, 2011, as the date of the upcoming Eid-Ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday in Ghana, being one day later than most middle eastern countries is a bit of a surprise.
