Honduras' Secretary of State of the Interior (Secretario de Estado en los Despachos del Interior y Población), Áfrico Madrid, has issued a statement ruling-out the declaration of an additional non-working bridge public holiday on Friday, September 16, 2011.
As per the aforementioned official communique, Thursday, September 15, 2011, will be a non-working public holiday on account of the annual Independence Day public holiday ("que día jueves 15 de septiembre en ocasión de conmemorarse un año más de nuestra independencia patria, se decreta Feriado Nacional"), but Friday, September 16, 2011, will be a regular working day ("viernes 16 de septiembre, todas las personas deberán retornar a sus labores de manera normal").
Last week, Hoduras' Education Vice-Minister, Elia del Cid, had announced that the traditional Independence Day extended school holidays (feriadon por la semana civica) would not occur in September 2011. Last spring (2011-06-05), the government of Honduras had reversed its earlier decision (2011-06-03) to cancel the upcoming, annual, week long holidays for schools and the educational system.
