India Extends April 14 Public Holiday

The Central Government of India has declared Thursday, April 14, 2011, as a closed public holiday for the birthday of Dr B R Ambedkar, in all its offices, including industrial establishments, throughout India.

The birthday of Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, is already a regional public holiday in many states (AP BR CH GJ HR JK KA KL MH OR PY TN UK UP).

In addition, April 14 is also a regional public holiday, for other reasons, in many other states of India: Tamil New Year (TN), Vishu (KL), Bengali New Year (WB), and Masadi (TR).
