The States of Jersey have rejected by a vote of 44-3, a recent bill introduced by Deputy Geoff Southern that Wednesday, October 19, 2011, the date of the next Jersey general election be declared a one-off public holiday.

The aforementioned bill was introduced last month (2011-03-04), to avoid a repeat of the low turnout in the last general election (34% in 2008).
