Nicaragua Declares 9-Day Public Sector Holidays

Nicaragua's Minister of Labour, Jeannette Chávez Gómez, has announced that Nicaragua's public sector workers and government services would close down for 9 consecutive days of public sector holidays on account of the upcoming Holy Week ("desde el sábado de Ramos al domingo de Pascua inclusive").

As per the aforementioned announcement (Nota 36, 06 de Abril del 2011), government services will close on Friday night, April 15, and re-open on Monday morning, April 25, 2011.

The extension of the annual, 2-day, Easter public holidays to a full week for the public sector is a regular occurrence in Nicaragua (2010-03-17, 2009-03-20, and 2008-03-10).
