Omani authorities, as per the Royal Orders of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, have announced the dates of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr (End of Ramadan) holidays for both the private sector and the public sector of Oman.
Following a decision issued by Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Civil Service Council, it was announced that the upcoming Eid al-Fitr public sector holidays for employees at the ministries, public authorities and other departments of the state administrative apparatus, would be from Monday, August 29, until Sunday, September 4, 2011, inclusively.
Such week long extensions of the Eid public sector holidays are common in Oman (2010-09-06 and 2009-09-17).
In a separate statement, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri, Oman's Manpower Minister, announced that work at companies of the Omani private sector would stop from Tuesday, August 30, until Saturday September 3, 2011, inclusively.
Finally, in an announcement that does not call into question the aforementioned dates of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holidays for both the private sector and the public sector of Oman, Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Salmi, the Awqaf and Religious Affairs Minister, announced that the Omani Moonsighting Committee had "calculated" that the last day of Ramadan would be August 30, with the first day of Shawwal and Eid Al Fitr falling on August 31, basing themselves on "Astronomical analyses[which]have confirmed the non-visibility of the Shawwal crescent on Ramadan 29 this year because of the absence of the sun in most regions of the country" [sic].
UPDATE (26-Aug-2011): it was announced that Oman's stock market would be closed from August 30 to September 4, 2011, inclusively, on account of the upcoming Eid Al Fitr.
