Papua New Guinea 2012 Public Holidays Announced

The Governor-General of Papua New Guinea (PNG), Sir Michael Ogio, has released the gazetted official list of appointed public holidays for the calendar year 2012.

The aforementioned announcement of official Papua New Guinea public holidays for the calendar year 2012 is contained in the "PNG National Gazette No.G197", and confirms the date of the 2012 Queen's Birthday public holiday, and as usual (2010-10-26, 2009-10-08, 2006-10-13, 2003-07-07 and 2000-08-15) announces day in lieu public holidays, if applicable.

One novelty in the aforementioned 2012 official list of Papua New Guinea non-working public holidays, is the addition of a new annual non-working public holiday, the National Day of Repentance, to be observed annually on August 26, starting in 2012.

Finally, for the 6th consecutive year (2010-10-26, 2009-10-08, 2008-10-17, 2007-07-09, 2006-10-13 and 2005-10-01), the Remembrance Day public holiday is listed on July 23. It was moved from July 23 to April 25, 7 years ago (2004-09-20), in a move that was meant to be permanent, but which was not well received.
