Singapore Declares May 7 Public Holiday

The Government of Singapore has declared Saturday, May 7, 2011, as a one-off public holiday on account of the upcoming polls that will be held on that day.

The aforementioned announcement was made, earlier this afternoon, through a government gazette issued by Singapore President S R Nathan.

In a later separate announcement, the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced that the following Monday, May 9, 2011, would be a school holiday for all teaching staff and pupils throughout Singapore.
