The government of Timor Leste has announced that it decided to grant a day-off public holiday on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, all day, to all staff and agents of the Ministries or dependent services, as well as the institutes and organisms integrated in the indirect administration of the State.
As per the aforementioned announcement, the public holiday on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, is given "due to the fact that Ash Wednesday is one of the important dates of great importance amongst the Christian community" and is in line with the precepts of law No.10/2005, which overhauled Timor Leste's public holidays (2005-08-12) and the recently-announced (2010-12-30) list of official public holidays in Timor Leste for the upcoming calendar year 2011.
