The Government of Timor Leste has decided to concede a day-off public holiday on Monday, August 15, 2011, from 8:00am to 2:30pm, to all employees and agents of the ministries or departments depending on them, as well as institutes and organizations included in indirect State administration.
As per the aforementioned announcement, the public holiday on Monday, August 15, 2011, is given as "August 15 is the day of the Assumption of Our Lady, one of the solemnities of the Catholic Church on the elevation of the Virgin Mary into heaven to be with her son Jesus Christ".
According to the Secretariat of State of the Council of Ministers of Timor Leste, this decision is based on law No.10/2005, which overhauled Timor Leste's public holidays (2005-08-12) and last year's (2010-12-30) list of official public holidays in Timor Leste for the upcoming calendar year 2011.
