The Cámara de Diputados de la República Oriental del Uruguay, in a joint session, has finally approved the declaration of a one-off regional non-working public holiday in Uruguay's region of Atlántida on Wednesday, October 19, 2011.
This follows a bill has been introduced last month (2011-09-16) by representative José Carlos Mahía to restore the annual, October 19, regional non-working public holiday in Uruguay's region of Atlántida, in time to coincide with the upcoming 100th anniversary of the seaside resort of Canelones.
The final version eschewed the declaration of an annual regional public holiday, something unheard of in Uruguay, in favor of a one-off regional public holiday, something that has occurred in the past (2007-06-18).
